Manufactured in the 1940s, this is an extremely rare “L.U.C.” (Louis Ulysse Chopard) popular 565-style oversized waterproof model with a black two-tone roulette dial.
Among L.U.C. models bearing the name of Chopard’s founder, “Louis Ulysse Chopard,” this piece is particularly uncommon. It is an early waterproof model produced before the brand became widely associated with high-end jewelry watches.
The beautifully constructed screw-back waterproof case (with dust cover), reminiscent of the Ref.565 made of Swedish steel by Patek Philippe, along with its gilt-finished bull’s-eye roulette dial and FHF-manufactured movement featuring specially treated bridges, all demonstrate remarkable attention to detail.
Altogether, this highly precious timepiece exhibits a level of originality rarely seen, along with the distinctive charm and superb character unique to watches of this era.
