A beautiful baby chronograph from the 1940s made by Universal, featuring the extremely rare Caliber 289, housed in an 18k solid pink gold square case with a salmon dial.
In the early days, Universal used the Valjoux 69-based Cal.270 and 290, but in later years, they equipped their watches with the in-house Cal.289 movement. This makes it the rarest among the "Big Three Baby Chronographs" (Universal, Valjoux, Geneva Sport).
This particular piece is especially rare even among baby chronographs due to its square case. The case measures 26mm wide and 35mm lug-to-lug. It has the solid weight and luxurious feel unique to 18k gold. The high-quality salmon dial, with applied indexes and elegant leaf hands, adds to the refined, high-end aesthetic of this exceptional timepiece.
The well-preserved salmon dial with its beautiful hue, and the original-shaped solid 18k square case further elevate the rarity of this watch. It also comes with a later-generation genuine GP (gold-plated) buckle.
