Manufactured in the late 1930s, this is an exceptionally rare Universal Genève stainless steel 46mm pocket watch chronograph in beautiful condition, featuring a white Roman numeral dial.
While Universal Genève is widely known for its wristwatches, pocket watch chronographs by the brand are exceedingly rare. This piece is powered by the renowned Caliber 285, a celebrated movement used primarily in Universal’s wristwatches of the same era.
The dial, with its unique four-register layout — small seconds at 6 o’clock, 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 3 o’clock, and the brand logo at 9 o’clock — evokes the design of later “Compax” chronographs. The matte white dial features roulette-style Roman numerals paired with blued steel baton hands, creating a superb Art Deco aesthetic.
With its refined design, high-quality craftsmanship, and historical significance from the transitional period when the brand name changed from Universal Watch to Universal Genève, this is a truly remarkable and important collector’s piece.
