Manufactured in the late 1930s, this is a rare Eberhard stainless steel chronograph featuring the Cal. 16 series movement, housed in a 40mm step-bezel case and fitted with a Breguet dial in a three-register configuration. It is powered by Eberhard’s large Cal. 16 chronograph movement, which incorporates mechanisms unique to the brand. The chronograph is started, stopped, and reset via the pusher at 2 o’clock, while the element at 4 o’clock—appearing at first glance to be a pusher—is actually a sliding control. When slid upward during chronograph operation, it activates a hacking function.
Among Eberhard chronographs, which more commonly feature smooth bezels, the 40mm step-bezel case is particularly uncommon. Combined with the Breguet dial pairing Breguet numerals and Breguet hands, and the three-register chronograph layout—rare for this period—this piece stands out as an exceptionally scarce example even among Eberhard’s rare chronographs. With its highly original movement, oversized case, and outstanding dial design, this Eberhard chronograph has attracted worldwide attention and remains highly sought after by collectors.
