A late-1930s Universal Genève, a rare Art Deco rectangular model in excellent condition, featuring a black Roman numeral dial.
Universal Genève was primarily known for its chronograph production, making this rectangular model an uncommon and highly desirable piece.
The dial is an all-printed design from the period prior to gilt dials. Originally black, it has aged over time to a warm brown tone, imparting an outstanding vintage character. Although the case measures a standard 22 mm in width and 37 mm in length, the dial fills the case beautifully, and the 20 mm lug width further enhances its presence, giving the watch a larger and more commanding appearance than its dimensions suggest.
The watch is powered by the rare tonneau-shaped Cal. 230 movement, an unusual choice for Universal Genève.
