Manufactured in the 1940s, this is a JARDUR “Bezel Meter” chronograph, a highly rare example powered by the Valjoux 71 movement. It features the popular stainless steel 38mm screw-back case and a striking black gilt dial.
This uniquely designed chronograph, unlike any other, was purpose-built for pilots. Its rotating countdown bezel and 24-hour scale enable precise flight-time measurement and GMT functionality, making it a true professional pilot’s chronograph. At the time, models offering such advanced functions were limited to Breitling and JARDUR, and the distinctive design born from these specialized features can truly be described as functional beauty.
The Bezel Meter exists in several variations, including early models equipped with the Valjoux 71, later versions with the Valjoux 72, as well as both waterproof and non-waterproof cases. This particular watch is a valuable early example, fitted with the Valjoux 71 movement, a 38mm waterproof screw-back case, and large chronograph pushers, all combining to deliver an exceptional and commanding presence.
