Manufactured in the 1930s, this is an extremely rare early automatic wide rectangular Art Deco model by Wyler, known by the nickname “Stapler,” featuring a two-tone sector dial.
Affectionately called the “Stapler” (hotchkiss), this highly unusual early automatic model stands out for its remarkable originality. The movable caseback operates up and down like a stapler, pressing an internal pin that winds the mainspring—an ingenious and virtually unparalleled mechanism. Time adjustment is performed by pulling the crown forward and turning it in a back-wind configuration.
The substantial wide rectangular case embodies functional beauty, and the rare two-tone sector dial—also referred to as the “Tokyoto” dial—beautifully captures the spirit of the era. An exceptionally scarce and valuable timepiece.
