This is a Rolex Marconi Special manufactured in the 1930s, featuring an Art Deco two-tone dial and an innovative flexible-case design.
Marconi was one of Rolex’s diffusion brands, named after Guglielmo Marconi, the pioneer of wireless communication who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909. By associating the brand with Marconi’s name—then a symbol of cutting-edge technology—Rolex sought to emphasize the modernity and technical sophistication of its watches.
The caseback is stamped “RWC Ltd.” (Rolex Watch Co. Ltd.), confirming its connection to Rolex. The watch is exceptionally well constructed, incorporating a flexible lug design that allows it to be worn comfortably and even used as a driver's watch. Its striking Art Deco two-tone dial features a mirrored chapter ring and oversized Arabic numerals, a design language also seen on contemporary Rolex models. The result is a watch that beautifully captures both the aesthetics and spirit of its era.
Powering the watch is the Fontainemelon Caliber 59, a movement produced by the renowned Fontainemelon (FHF) manufacture.
