Manufactured in the 1950s, this Mido “Multifort” Extra Super Automatic is a rare 34mm jumbo-sized model featuring a beautifully aged tropical two-tone dial.
Produced from the 1930s through the 1970s, the Multifort is one of Mido’s signature and most successful models, offered in a wide variety of configurations, including both manual-winding and automatic movements as well as round and rectangular cases.
This example is powered by the Cal. 917P, a bumper-style automatic movement equipped with an anti-shock system. The substantial screw-back waterproof case is a particularly practical design, engraved on the case back with “SUPERAUTOMATIC,” “WATERPROOF,” “RUSTLESS STEEL,” “SHOCKPROTECTED,” and “ANTIMAGNETIC.” The case is exceptionally well constructed, with matching individual serial numbers engraved on both the case back and middle case, reminiscent of the FB cases of the era.
The dial features the highly sought-after Explorer-style design, combining luminous Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock with engraved markers. Its beautifully developed patina and color changes over time give the dial an exceptional vintage character and make this a particularly appealing example.
