A 1940s Movado “Ermeto” triple calendar moon phase model.
Introduced in the 1920s, the “Ermeto” name derives from “Hermetic,” meaning sealed, and, as its name suggests, the watch was designed to protect the movement by enclosing it within the case. The distinctive case features sliding covers on both sides that open and close to reveal and conceal the watch.
One of the Ermeto’s most fascinating features is its unique winding mechanism activated by opening and closing the case covers. Movado also offered an exceptionally diverse range of Ermeto models, including three-hand and calendar versions, equipped with various in-house movements. With its ingenious construction and originality unlike any other watch of its era, the Ermeto is truly one of Movado’s most iconic and remarkable creations.
