Manufactured around 1940, this Omega is powered by Cal. 23.4SC and features a rare black gloss dial with distinctive “Bardia” hour hands. It is an early dustproof model. The watch is fitted with an early dustproof case designed to house the movement from the caseback side, providing excellent protection against dust, similar to examples from the same period equipped with Omega’s 30mm calibers. Inside is the early center-seconds Cal. 23.4SC. The black gilt dial, retaining an iridescent oil-film effect across its surface, features the distinctive hour hand known as the “Bardia” hour hand. The rare center-seconds configuration for this era further accentuates the characterful design. With its early dustproof case, waterproof case variations, and wide range of dial designs, this exceptional example reflects the experimental period of Omega’s development, with characteristics rarely seen in later models. The slim bezel and generously proportioned dial give this 35mm watch a remarkably substantial presence that belies its size.
